Sikandar Box Office: Film collects Rs. 30.06 cr on Day 1; emerges as Salman Khan's 7th All-Time Highest Opening Day Grosser

Salman Khan’s latest release, Sikandar, directed by A.R. Murugadoss and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, made a strong impact at the box office with a Day 1 collection of Rs. 30.06 crore. While the film opened to numbers slightly below initial expectations, trade experts predict that the business will see significant growth over the Eid holiday, traditionally a lucrative period for Salman Khan’s films. Despite its commendable performance, Sikandar finds itself ranked seventh among Salman Khan’s all-time highest opening day grossers. Leading the pack is Tiger 3, which stormed the box office with Rs. 44.50 crore on its first day, followed closely by Bharat (Rs. 42.30 crore) and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Rs. 40.35 crore). The action-packed Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai also fared better, raking in Rs. 36.54 crore and Rs. 34.10 crore, respectively. Even Ek Tha Tiger, which released over a decade ago, outperformed Sikandar with a Rs. 32.93 crore opening. Comparing Sikandar to these blockbusters hi...

Sikandar Box Office: Salman Khan starrer has a decent start; collects Rs. 30.06 cr on Day 1

Arriving almost a year and a half after Tiger 3, there were huge expectations from Sikandar. After all, Salman Khan is playing the title role and the film was playing to the gallery. Yes, there were mixed reactions to the songs but then the trailer was well received which gave an indication that a very good start was on the cards. Surprisingly, the advance booking didn’t pick up much due to which expectations for the first day came down to Rs. 32-35 crores. However, the opening was lesser at Rs. 30.06 crores. From a Salman Khan starrer, especially considering Eid release, the first day was expected to be much better. Moreover, Sajid Nadiadwala had ensured that the film got the biggest release possible at the maximum screens and shows, which mean audiences, had a choice to step into theatres at any time of their choice. Still, the numbers just about managed to cross Rs. 30 crores mark. In isolation, this is still a decent number because hardly any movies have managed this kind of numb...

Sikandar Box Office Estimate Day 1: Salman Khan starrer takes an average start; opens at Rs. 30 crores

The Salman Khan led Sikandar has taken an average start at the box office in India, as early estimates are hinting at a first day business in the range of Rs. 29 crores to Rs. 31 crores. The start is good for most in the Hindi Film industry, but sub-par for a superstar of Salman Khan's repute, who should be aiming at a first day biz in the range of Rs. 50 crores. The film has expectedly done better in the mass belts than the multiplexes, due to the genre and the falling goodwill of Salman Khan in the urban belts. The business of Sikandar is a reflection of sub-par trailers, songs, teasers, and marketing campaigns. The film failed to create any sort of curiosity among the cinema-goers, and its only the diehard Salman Khan fans who have stepped out in big numbers for the opening day. The reports don’t seem to be in favour of the film, which means a tough road ahead post the Eid period, which ends on Tuesday. Sikandar might enter the Rs 100 crore club at the box office in India, but...

Salman Khan’s Sikandar leaked online hours before release, fans disappointed

With anticipation running high for Salman Khan’s Sikandar, the film’s online leak has disappointed many. Just hours before its release, the AR Murugadoss-directed action thriller surfaced on piracy sites. Infamous platforms like Tamilrockers, Movierulz, Filmyzilla, and various Telegram groups have made the full movie available for illegal download and streaming. Despite strict anti-piracy laws and ongoing crackdowns, piracy remains a major concern for Bollywood. In Sikandar's case, the leak likely stemmed from camcorder recordings in theatres, which were quickly enhanced to HD quality and uploaded within hours. Meanwhile, celebrations are in full swing for Salman Khan’s Eid release, with fans lining up in large numbers outside theatres to experience the film on the big screen. Videos from around the world captured fans celebrating Sikandar's release—dancing inside theatres, cutting cakes, and cheering for ‘Bhaijaan’ Salman Khan – are doing the rounds. Directed by A.R. Sikandar Box Office Advance Booking: Salman Khan starrer hits 1 Lakh pre-sales in advance booking

Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna's Eid 2025 offing, Sikandar, is seeing a slower-than-expected response in advance bookings. As of data received at 3 PM, Sikandar has sold 1.07 lakh tickets across the Top 3 national chains - PVRInox and Cinepolis - and is looking towards a final advance booking in the range of 1.75 lakh tickets. With this range of advance booking, Sikandar is looking at first-day business in the range of Rs. 30 crore to Rs. 32 crore, which is not up to the mark, given the high standards set by Salman Khan over the years. The film is riding on the shoulders of Salman Khan, as nothing barring his presence is creating conversations for Sikandar. The pre-sales are better in single screens than the multiplexes, but that's also due to the genre, which has a very non-multiplex film, appealing mainly to the mass audience. The first 3 days of the film have to be strong and hit the Rs. 100 crore mark, as it is a frontloaded film, warranting a frontloaded start. fro...

Salman Khan spoke his heart out during the group interaction held at a five-star hotel in Mumbai as part of promotions of Sikandar. Towards the end of the interview, he was asked about the recent decision by the government of Karnataka to have a cap of Rs. 200 on movie tickets. Salman Khan said, “I really want that there’s a price cap on movie tickets. I also feel that there should be capping on the prices of popcorn and cold drinks. The producer should also get a share out of it.” He also sighed over the fact that India is an under-screened market, “We are a minimum 20,000 + theatres short in our country. We are releasing our films in just 6000 screens. We were shooting for Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) in Mandawa, Rajasthan, from where 100 billionaires have come out. There’s not a single theatre in that town. You have to drive 2 ½ drive to see a film. Hence, there’s a shortage of cinema halls.” When asked how he defines mass cinema, Salman Khan made an important comment, ...

Santosh Release halted by CBFC over depiction of police brutality and caste issues; director Sandhya Suri REACTS!

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has stirred controversy by blocking the theatrical release of the internationally acclaimed film Santosh in India. Directed by British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri and starring Shahana Goswami, the film has been lauded globally for its raw depiction of police brutality, sexual violence, caste discrimination, and misogyny within the Indian police force. However, these very themes have led to its rejection by the CBFC. Why did the CBFC block Santosh? Santosh, set in a fictional north Indian town, follows the journey of a young widow (played by Shahana Goswami) who joins the police force and investigates the murder of a Dalit girl. The film doesn’t shy away from exposing systemic issues like police brutality, sexual violence against lower-caste women, and institutional biases such as Islamophobia. While these themes earned Santosh critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival and a nomination as the UK’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars in...

The Diplomat Box Office: Film does quite well on Saturday, almost doubles up over Friday

It was a very good Saturday for The Diplomat as collections pretty much doubled up over Friday. Given the kind of hold that the film has been demonstrating all this while, it was a given that the film will jump well by 50%-75% on Saturday. However doubling up has given the film an added momentum which means now the John Abraham starrer will end up being a fair success at least. The film collected Rs. 2.52 crores on Tuesday which is a very good jump when compared to Friday collections of Rs. 1.27 crores. Anything over Rs. 2 crores would have been good and now that Rs. 2.50 crores mark has been breached, one waits to see if Rs. 2.75-3 crores could come in today. If that indeed turns out to be the case, then the film is in a real chance to stay over 1 crore mark from Monday till Thursday as well. The Shivam Nair directed film has now touched Rs. 23.24 crores and now Rs. 30 crores mark is set to be surpassed in two weeks. Post that the shows will get reduced due to arrival of Sikandar bu...

The films of Sooraj and also his recently released maiden web series, Bada Naam Karenge, don’t have a villain. Action also needs to be minimal, if required. Sooraj Barjatya spoke about this and also that his family follows a rule book: There can't be a (conventional) villain, and the number of punches cannot exceed 14! Sooraj Barjatya revealed, “My father (Rajkumar Barjatya) and grandfather knew that the villain is a must. But it's best if the villain can be a circumstance so that we don’t have too much violence. In Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), the death of the bhabhi is a circumstance. In Maine Pyar Kiya (1987), bechare ke note bheeg jaate hai. That is the circumstance. In Uunchai (2022), the protagonists want to climb the mountain and, in th...

Exaggerated pay cheques? The truth about Kiara Advani’s Rs. 15 cr remuneration for Toxic

This is not the first time an actor’s insanely inflated remuneration has been circulated, and it certainly won’t be the last. Hold your breath! Kiara Advani’s remuneration for Geetu Mohandas’s Toxic is rumoured to be a whopping Rs. 15 crores. When I reached out to someone close to the project, they dismissed the claim outright. “Firstly, no actress in India gets that kind of money—not even Alia Bhatt or Deepika Padukone. Secondly, Kiara is certainly not being paid Rs. 15 crores. It’s ridiculous to even suggest such a figure. Let’s be very honest—Toxic is being marketed worldwide as Yash’s film. The co-stars don’t impact the film’s economics in the same way. This is Yash’s first project post-KGF, and his fans are eagerly awaiting its release in March 2026.” However, the source was quick to clarify that Kiara does play a significant role in Toxic. “It’s not as if she has an inconsequential part. But in terms of the film’s commercial viability, her presence doesn’t alter the equation.”...

Prerna Arora responds to Jaya Bachchan’s remarks on Toilet: Ek Prem Katha; says, "I am a huge fan, but this hurts"

Jaya Bachchan never minces words. Most of the time, people appreciate her outspokenness. However, her recent statement calling the 2017 Akshay Kumar-starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha an inappropriately titled flop has not gone down well with some. The film’s co-producer, Prerna Arora, is hurt by the remark. "Let me first state that I am a huge, HUGE fan of Jayaji. For me, she is the ultimate. I can watch Guddi, Uphaar, Abhimaan, and Mili anytime, anywhere, and feel happy about life. It is, therefore, very hurtful to hear her say that our film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was a flop. Ma’am should check the box office figures. Our film earned a very handsome profit. It was one of the five biggest hits of 2017." As for the title, Prerna reveals that it was retained after considerable debate. "We weren’t sure about the title at first. It seemed risky to have the word ‘toilet’ in the title, especially before ‘A Love Story.’ But eventually, we settled on the edgy title. As a producer, ...

National Cinema Day and Cinema Lovers Day had a huge impact on footfalls at one point. But the last Cinema Lovers Day, which was held on January 17, failed to entice and this had led to a question mark on whether it still has the same pull. Nevertheless, today, Friday, March 21, is the day when most theatres across the country are selling tickets for cheap rates. But unlike the previous instances, there has been no declaration by the theatres or Multiplex Association of India about this scheme. Yesterday, the makers of The Diplomat announced that the John Abraham-starrer’s tickets would be available for flat Rs. 99 on March 21. The offer is valid on normal seats and not on luxury format classes or screens. A few hours before the announcement, Chhaava makers also informed the viewers that their film, too, can be watched at reasonable prices. Soon, it came to light that the tickets for all the new and holdover releases would be priced reasonably. The maximum ticket price of Superboys O...

The Diplomat Box Office: John Abraham starrer stays over Rs. 1.50 crore mark on Wednesday

It was yet another stable day for The Diplomat as Rs. 1.52 crore came in. The first two weekdays were fair as collections managed to stay over Rs. 1.50 crore mark. That did depict good stability at the box office. Hence, now that Wednesday too has collected the same number, then it’s on the expected lines. Moreover, as long as collections stay on top of Rs. 1.35 crore mark today as well, it would be okay for the John Abraham starrer. The collections now stand at Rs. 18.01 crores after 6 days. The first week collections would be in the vicinity of Rs. 19.50 crores now and then hold over the second weekend will lead the film towards Rs. 30 crores lifetime. Now, there are two sides to these numbers. If one considers the manner in which the film arrived with hardly any awareness, then these would be fair numbers since many films with better promotion and marketing have also struggled to get even Rs. 20 crores at the box office, case in point being Vedaa, which closed at Rs. 20.25 crores,...

Sikandar: A.R. Murugadoss reveals shooting with Salman Khan amidst security threats; says, “Our biological cycles were disrupted, but once we adapted, it became a routine”

Filmmaker AR Murugadoss recently opened up about the challenging shooting process of his upcoming film Sikandar, starring Salman Khan. Due to death threats against the Bollywood superstar, the production faced intense security measures, adding to the complexity of filming. Speaking about the experience, Murugadoss shared, “Salman sir is completely different. The scale of Sikandar was massive, with scenes often involving 10,000 to 20,000 people on set. Managing such large crowds required high security and intense coordination. Our schedule was demanding, and the looming threat made it even more hectic.” The director further revealed that security protocols were significantly heightened following the threats. “Post that, security was tightened, and checking all extra artistes on set took 2-3 hours daily. Their entries and exits consumed most of our time, often delaying our shoots until the early hours of the morning. Our biological cycles were disrupted, but once we adapted, it became ...

Raza Murad responds to backlash over viral drinking video during Ramzan; reveals it was a scene from a shoot

Veteran actor Raza Murad recently faced criticism on social media after a video of him drinking went viral. A section of the Internet condemned the senior actor, assuming he was consuming alcohol during the holy month of Ramzan. Addressing the controversy, Murad clarified that the footage was from a film shoot and not a personal celebration. Responding in the comments section of the viral video, Murad explained that the scene was filmed in Chhatarpur, Delhi, a few days ago as part of a movie. He emphasized that it was his character’s birthday being celebrated in the clip, not his actual birthday, which falls in November. In Hindi, he wrote, "Please don't think that there was a birthday party or celebrations of some sort going on. The viral footage is from a film scene, shot in Chhatarpur Delhi, a few days ago. In those scenes, my character's birthday is being celebrated." He further added, "Without knowing the incident, you assume that a party was going on. My ...
