Before Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted Rani Mukerji as Gangubai: Aditya Narayan

Singer and television host Aditya Narayan recently shared a lesser-known detail about the early development of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s critically acclaimed film Gangubai Kathiawadi. In a conversation with Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa on their YouTube channel, Aditya revealed that Bhansali had initially considered casting Rani Mukerji in the lead role—years before the film was eventually made with Alia Bhatt. Aditya, who once worked with Bhansali as an assistant director, said the opportunity came after a challenging period in his career. Following the commercial failure of his film Shaapit, Aditya struggled to find work and was out of the spotlight for nearly a year. During that time, even basic support from public relations professionals dried up, and previous project offers disappeared. His fortunes began to shift when he got the chance to host X Factor India, where Bhansali was one of the judges. Encouraged by singer Sonu Nigam, Aditya expressed interest in learning filmmak...

Sunny Deol to resume shooting final leg of Lahore 1947 in Punjab, film release pushed to 2026: Report

Aamir Khan’s production Lahore 1947 is heading into its final schedule. After initial reports in November last year suggested that Khan had recommended changes to the film following its first cut, it appears director Rajkumar Santoshi and leading man Sunny Deol are set to implement those revisions. A report by Mid-Day reveals that Sunny Deol will return to the sets next week for what is expected to be the last leg of the period drama, which traces the emotional journey of people caught in the upheaval of India’s Partition. The unit will travel to Punjab for the schedule, with preparations already underway. “Sunny and Santoshi sir will shoot most of these newly envisioned sequences in real locations of Punjab. The shoot will begin on October 10 and go on for 12 days,” the source told the portal. While the ensemble cast also features Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi, the final schedule will focus solely on Deol, as the other principal actors have completed their portions. Preity wrapped u...

EXCLUSIVE: CBFC reduces kissing scene in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari by 60%; mutes 'guard'

2 days are left for the release of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and the advance booking has commenced in full swing. As expected, the censor process was completed by the makers in time, six days before the release, to be precise. In this exclusive story, Bollywood Hungama will focus on the cut list of the romcom. Fans will be happy to know that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed the film with just two cuts. Firstly, the word ‘guard’ has been muted, wherever it occurs. It probably seems to be a part of the scene where Varun Dhawan’s character Sunny utters a derogatory word and then claims that he actually mentioned ‘guard’. The other cut is that the Examining Committee of the CBFC has reduced lip-lock visuals by 60%. Lastly, the makers were asked to add the anti-alcohol static. Once these changes were made, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari was passed with a U/A 13+ certificate. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 135.45 minutes. In ot...

Akshay Kumar counters Aamir Khan’s six-month gap between theatres and streaming releases: “OTT platforms also need to benefit from the deal”

The ongoing debate over the ideal gap between theatrical releases and OTT premieres has found two of Bollywood’s biggest stars on opposite ends. After Aamir Khan recently advocated for a six-month window to protect the theatrical business, Akshay Kumar has voiced his disagreement, suggesting that a shorter gap is more practical for all stakeholders. In a conversation with ABP Live, Akshay stressed that OTT platforms, which invest heavily in digital rights, also deserve fair treatment. “According to me, a three-month gap is okay. Six months is too long because at the end of the day, the OTT platform is paying you for the digital rights. They also need to benefit from the deal,” he said. The actor-producer added that the industry should return to the pre-pandemic model, where theatres and streaming platforms co-existed without friction. “When it comes to digital rights sale, producers happily take money from the OTT platform. But when we want to, we also conveniently say our films aren...

Bollywood Hungama was the first one to break the viral news that AA Films, the distributors of Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1, have asked for 100% showcasing in single-screen, two-screen and even three-screen multiplexes. The news shocked the trade and industry as it was an attempt to ensure that the Varun Dhawan-starrer Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, which also releases on the same day as the Rishab Shetty-starrer, doesn’t get sufficient shows. Meanwhile, the exhibition community was waiting to see what Dharma Productions, the producers as well as distributors of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, had to say about showcasing. Bollywood Hungama has learned that in the evening of September 27, they sent their list of requirements to exhibitors across the country. An exhibition source told Bollywood Hungama, “The distribution team of Dharma Productions has asked cinemas that they want their film to be played in minimum 1 audi in 2-screen cinemas, that too in all shows. This means that they...

The Ba***ds of Bollywood: Delhi High Court asks Sameer Wankhede to justify defamation plea against Netflix and Red Chillies

The Delhi High Court on Friday questioned former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) zonal director Sameer Wankhede over the maintainability of his defamation plea against Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix. The officer had approached the court seeking a permanent and mandatory injunction, declaration, and damages for what he described as a “false, malicious and defamatory” portrayal in the web series The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav asked Wankhede to establish how his plea was maintainable in Delhi and whether any cause of action had arisen in the national capital. According to the court’s observations, jurisdiction was a key issue in deciding the admissibility of the petition. In response, Wankhede’s counsel, senior advocate Sandeep Sethi, argued that the series was available for streaming in Delhi and had been viewed by audiences in the city, thereby impacting his client’s reputation locally. The court, however, directed Wankhede to amend...

Jolly LLB 3 Box Office: Does well in Week One, all eyes on 100 Crore Club entry

Jolly LLB 3 did well in its first week as Rs. 74 crores* came in. The film had scored a comfortable half century in the first week and that ensured that Rs. 70 crores mark was crossed by the time the first week came to a close. In fact, a few extra crores have come in as well which positions it well for ultimately hitting a century. Weekend was quite good for the Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi starrer as Rs. 20 crores mark was breached on Saturday as well as Sunday. At that point in time it seemed like the first week would actually aim for a number around Rs. 80 crores. However, while the film did grow well on Blockbuster Tuesday with deducted ticket rates, rest of the days were decent enough. Moreover, since the film is primarily finding audiences at key multiplexes, this is where growth would be evidenced again in the second weekend. There is no competition for the film this week as well, though it would be a shortened one since Sunny Sanskaari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Kantara: Chapter O...

SHOCKING: Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 makers demand that single screen, 2-screen, 3-screen theatres should NOT share shows with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari; ask for 100% showcasing

Less than a week is left for the release of Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. And this one is no unusual clash. As expected, fights over show sharing have begun in full force. But this time, exhibitors are left shocked with the demands put forward by the team of Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1. A trade source said, “AA Films, the distributors of Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 have sent a mail to exhibitors, regarding their requirement of the shows. They have demanded that all shows in single-screens and 12 shows in two screen cinemas. The latter also amounts to all shows; they mention the same clearly in the mail to avoid any confusion. Shockingly, they have also asked for 18 shows in three-screen multiplexes, which, in other words, also amounts to each and every show. They are well aware that a film like Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is releasing alongside their flick. Yet, they have asked for such a showcasing.” The source continued, “It’s common for d...

The actor revealed that even simple meals became a challenge: “It would take me about an hour and a half to finish my breakfast, and I would go straight to dinner. For an omelet, since I couldn...

Jolly LLB 3 Box Office: Has a decent Monday, will see a surge in collections today due to Blockbuster Tuesday offer

After scoring a comfortable half century over the weekend, Jolly LLB 3 had a decent Monday as Rs. 5.50 crores came in. The drop from Friday (Rs. 12.50 crores) is just a little more than 50% and that’s manageable because nowadays due to Blockbuster Tuesday offer, Mondays are a bit lower and then Tuesdays see a surge again. That’s what will happen today and the collections are all set to go up, hence balancing it out between Monday and Tuesday. Post that, regular Wednesday and Thursday will take it through. The good part is that it’s an open week ahead and due to its good multiplex appeal, the film will have a healthy second weekend that will comfortably take it past the Rs. 100 crores mark. The Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla starrer currently stands at Rs. 59 crores and while Rs. 75 crores mark will be crossed by the close of first week, a couple of extra crores may come in as well. The Subhash Kapoor directed film is a success story for sure and what remains to be seen...

NGT dismisses plea against renovation of Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat, says CRZ clearance valid

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has dismissed an appeal challenging the renovation work at superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic sea-facing residence, Mannat, in Bandra. The petition, filed by activist Santosh Daundkar, alleged that the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) had wrongly granted Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance for the renovation earlier this year. The MCZMA had approved the project on January 3. The NGT bench, comprising Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh and Dr Vijay Kulkarni, rejected the plea at the admission stage itself, stating that the appeal had “no force.” The tribunal noted that the proposed construction fell under a CRZ-II area, situated on the landward side of an existing road and fixed structures, making the work permissible under the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification, 2019. The bench also observed that Mannat already existed prior to the grant of CRZ permission, and the renovation plans only involved adding two upper floors – the 7th and ...

Jolly LB 3 has done quite well over the weekend. After seeing an opening of Rs. 12.50 crores and then growing well on Saturday (Rs. 20 crores), it consolidated on Sunday with Rs. 21 crores coming in. Considering the fact that the film has been made at controlled costs, soon it would be registering profits from theatrical business as well. In fact, the comparison here would be with Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 and the film is on track to find itself on the same lines at the end of its run. After taking an opening of Rs. 12.50 crores, Jolly LLB 3 grew well on Saturday as Rs. 20 crores came in. This was the kind of growth that was on the cards as well since the word of mouth for the film has been positive. Now, Jolly LLB 3 should do far better as it’s set for Rs. 55 crores+ weekend, what with Rs. 32.50 crores already in its kitty. There is no competition around it since Hollywood film The Conjuring: Last Rites has run its time, and Japanese anime film Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is also in its second week and exhausted its target audience. There is nothing from Bollywood either which is posing any sort of threat, which means...
