The much talked about and keenly anticipated release Gangubai Kathiawadi finally released yesterday. Starring Alia Bhatt and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali the film has been all the rage for the past few days. From its premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival to the film’s lead actress being snapped across the city promoting it, to a plethora of Bollywood stars making a bee line to watch the film, Gangubai Kathiawadi has managed to perk the audiences’ interest. But will this interest translate into in theatre footfalls is the question.

In this box office report we take a look at the opening day collections of Gangubai Kathiawadi while comparing the same to Alia Bhatt’s previous release. Surpassing expectations Gangubai Kathiawadi has managed to draw in Rs. 10.50 cr on Day 1, surpassing the collections of Alia’s previous release Udta Punjab that had collected Rs. 10.05 cr. With this Gangubai Kathiawadi has now become Alia Bhatt’s 6th highest all-time opening day grosser. If that wasn’t all, Gangubai Kathiawadi has also managed to out beat her other releases like Udta Punjab that collected Rs. 10.05 cr, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania that collected Rs. 9.02 cr, Raazi that collected Rs. 7.53 cr, and Student of the Year that had collected Rs. 7.48 cr. However, the business of the film does not surpass Alia’s other releases like Kalank that collected Rs. 21.60 cr, Gully Boy that collected Rs. 19.40 cr, Shaandaar that collected Rs. 13.10 cr, 2 States that collected Rs. 12.42 cr, and Badrinath Ki Dulhania that collected Rs. 12.25 cr.

Currently looking at the audience appreciation of the film, and of course the positive critic reviews it has received the business of Gangubai Kathiawadi is certain to increase. In fact, with the centre relaxing the pandemic protocols it is likely that the business of the film will see a sharp increase. As of now, trade predictions state that going by the current trend Gangubai Kathiawadi could well see around Rs. 30-35 cr coming in over its opening weekend.

Gulshan Devaiah starts shooting Ulajh with Janhvi Kapoor and Roshan Mathew; says I am playing a complicated part

Gulshan Devaiah has started shooting for his upcoming film Ulajh. The movie has Janhvi Kapoor and Roshan Mathew as his co-stars. Since the movie is about Indian Foreign Services (IFS), the major portion of the shoot is expected to be done in various foreign locations.
