Ek Villain Returns Box Office: Film collects Rs. 7.05 cr on Day 1; emerges as ninth highest opening day grosser of 2022

Ek Villain Returns the keenly anticipated sequel to the 2014 film Ek Villain was released yesterday. Directed by Mohit Suri the film which features Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham, Disha Patani and Tara Sutari has been making waves in the run-up to its release. But the question remains, will the film entice the audience at the box office, or will it like recent releases fade away? However, going by reports, the film was expected to open on a good note.

In this box office report, we look at the opening day collections of Ek Villain Returns while comparing the same to previous releases of 2022. Collecting Rs. 7.05 cr, Ek Villain Returns has emerged as the ninth highest opening day grosser of 2022. Leading the list of highest opening day grossers are previous releases like KGF - Chapter 2 which collected Rs. 53.95 cr, RRR which collected Rs. 20.07 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which collected Rs. 14.11 cr, Bachchhan Paandey which collected Rs. 13.25 cr, Samrat Prithviraj which collected Rs. 10.70 cr, Gangubai Kathiawadi which collected Rs. 10.50 cr, Shamshera which collected Rs. 10.25 cr, and Jugjugg Jeeyo which had collected Rs. 9.28 cr. However, the business of Ek Villain Returns does surpass other releases like Heropanti 2 which collected Rs. 6.5 cr, Radhe Shyam which collected Rs. 4.44 cr, and The Kashmir Files which collected Rs. 3.55 cr.

Currently, Ek Villain Returns has seen a better opening in single-screen dominated mass sectors as compared to multiplex dominated territories. However, reaping the benefit of being a franchise film, the business of Ek Villain Returns is expected to see growth over its opening weekend. In fact, if business at national multiplex chains shows an increase the collections of the film could see a good jump.

Gulshan Devaiah has started shooting for his upcoming film Ulajh. The movie has Janhvi Kapoor and Roshan Mathew as his co-stars.
