Ek Villain Returns Box Office: Film opens well and on predicted lines; collects Rs. 7.05 cr. on Day 1

It was predicted in this column that Ek Villain Returns will take a start of Rs. 6-8 crores and that's exactly what happened as Rs. 7.05 crores came in. This would have been fair enough even in the pre-pandemic days and in the current market scenario, this is in fact good. There is so much struggle involved to bring people out of their homes to theatres and to still have a number like this come in is worth its price in gold.

What's all the more remarkable is that most of this moolah has come from the single screens or at lower-priced multiplexes, which means compared to a double-digit urban opener, this one with even Rs. 7.05 crores has generated better footfalls. Now that's good news indeed because at least amongst a certain segment of the audience, the film was carrying good buzz and that's what has translated into numbers as well.

From the core genre and treatment perspective, this one is along the lines of Hate Story franchise as there is a lethal dose of ‘love, sex aur dhokha’ involved, something that is bound to work with the audiences when presented well. Mohit Suri does one more thing right in this cocktail, and that's embedding good music into the narrative, something that's the strength of Ek Villain Returns as well. By the look of things, Bollywood has good success in the making and if the numbers manage to go past Rs. 9 crores today, it's a certainty for sure.
