Gadar 2 Box Office: Becomes the 5th all-time highest grosser in the Mumbai circuit; collects Rs. 117.8 cr.

In the dynamic landscape of the Indian film industry, the sequel to the blockbuster film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha has taken the box office by storm. Gadar 2, the highly anticipated follow-up, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Pater has achieved extraordinary feat at the box office since its release on August 11. The Anil Sharma directorial, after opening on a thunderous note has seen its collections grow exponentially with each passing day. In fact, after sailing past the Rs. 100 cr. and Rs. 200 cr. mark, the business of Gadar 2 has even passed the Rs. 400 cr. mark at the domestic box office. In this box office report, we look at the performance of the film within the Mumbai circuit alone while comparing the same to previous releases.

Collecting a staggering Rs. 117.8 cr. in Mumbai territory alone, the business of Gadar 2 has surpassed certain big-ticket releases like Tiger Zinda Hai which collected Rs. 109.08 cr, PK which collected Rs. 105.2 cr, Dangal which collected Rs. 104.22 cr, and Sanju which had collected Rs. 102.39 cr, to emerge as the all-time fifth highest grosser within the Mumbai circuit. However, despite the immense craze for the film, and the positive reviews, the business of Gadar 2 does not manage to surpass other releases like Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion which collected Rs. 191.58 cr, Pathaan which collected Rs. 166.52 cr, Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior which collected Rs. 136.94 cr, and KGF - Chapter 2 which had collected Rs. 134.61 cr in Mumbai.

Given the appeal of the film and the general audience’s craze for it, this feat comes as no surprise. In fact, given the fact that the Mumbai circuit, is often considered the heart of the Indian film industry, it holds a special significance in determining the success of a film. This immense wave of positivity for the film is being attributed to factors like the nostalgic and emotional resonance the first film established with the audience, the star power, and the strategic marketing.

Going forward, Gadar 2 which has managed to outlast even newer releases is expected to continue its march at the box office. Early trade estimates state that Gadar 2 is likely to see its collections hold steady over the coming weekend and its third week running.

Gulshan Devaiah has started shooting for his upcoming film Ulajh. The movie has Janhvi Kapoor and Roshan Mathew as his co-stars.
